Do the EC3 Air Purification Candles REALLY Work to Reduce the Mold Load in a Indoor Environment?

I get many emails from readers asking about the true efficacy of the Micro Balance products—most specifically the EC3 Environmental Products. If you are new to my blog, or not familiar with the EC3 products, the line includes solutions for keeping mold and mycotoxin counts down on surfaces, belongings, an in the indoor air. LOTS of my posts include one or more mentions of the EC3 products and the ways in which I use them in our home as a means of cleaning for mold, or for mold hygiene and mold avoidance. These are the products that I am trusting to keep my home and my family well and safe. I wouldn’t be posting all of these articles if the EC3 products didn’t work, right?

Well, I can assure you that I would NOT be touting any product or service that I didn’t actively use, trust, and believe in. I try to keep my posts informative, science-based and not sales-y. I do have an affiliate relationship on this blog with Micro Balance and any money earned helps me to keep this blog going as a labor of love to help as many people as I can. More than that, though, I want you to know that I mold test frequently in my home to make sure that what I am “saying” on this blog is true to the best of my knowledge. I even conduct experiments, and I put any products I write about to the test DAILY to make sure that I am not leading anyone astray or causing anyone to throw money down the drain on products that do not do what they say they do.

The Science and Testing Behind My Favorite Mold Products

I am excited about this post. Today, I am finally going to take a deep, technical and scientific dive into your questions about the EC3 Products that I love so much and write about frequently on this blog. I hope to answer questions, like,

Why do I use the EC3 Products?

Do they really work?

Is there actual science and testing behind the ingredients in the products?

Has a lab tested the products and their efficacy against mold and mycotoxins?

What other products, if any, do I use and recommend for mold?

What products do I stay away from?

Lots of questions, I know. I do intend to answer each one, so that you can see why I have decided to place such trust in one line of products.

You see, even though I have recommended the EC3 Products from the beginning, I am not sure if I have ever clearly stated my personal reasons for deciding to use them in our home for mold remediation, cleaning for mold, and mold maintenance. I also don’t know if I have ever really gotten into the nitty gritty of how the EC3 Products actually work or why the ingredients contained in the products are so effective against mold. It seems like I should’ve addressed this a long time ago, especially when there are so many other competitor products in this “mold space,” and I don’t write about them. I realize the glaring omission, and want to address that also.

How Much Cleaning for Mold and Mold Maintenance is Actually Necessary for Environmentally-Sensitive People?

My Daily, Weekly, and Monthly “Cleaning” Routines for a Healthier Home

I have readers write to me almost everyday wondering about the importance of mold maintenance and cleaning their homes for mold on a regular basis. I am often asked, “Is all of that cleaning for mold you are doing necessary? I thought you lived in a safe home now with no water damage or elevated indoor mold levels? Why are you still doing so much mold maintenance to stay well?”

Before I give my answer, I want to say that I realize this post does not apply to everyone. Because I am a mold-allergy sufferer with an autoimmune issue (ulcerative colitis), my impetus for being so thorough with my home environment, especially when it comes to mold is probably quite different from the average person. I strongly believe that for allergy patients, the mold sensitive, the elderly, or for those with compromised immune systems, regular mold maintenance is essential to maintaining good health. I believe it may also be essential for young children with developing immune systems. I am not pushing what I do as the right thing for everyone in every home.

What I am saying is this: For a certain population of people, cleaning for mold and actively preventing it in their homes can make a HUGE positive difference in their overall health. And, when you consider that Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) affects 50 million people, and that 80 million people in the US have a genetic predisposition for mold sensitivity, it makes sense that my sharing this information and what I have learned that works for me can help a lot of people.
